Friends, many of you may be sneezing and coughing your eyes out right about now, and no it’s not because someone’s missing you (crying) because it’s just officially flu season.
For those of you who don’t have the flu, LUCKY. And for those of you who do, don’t worry – SCIENCE is here to save the day.
According to a study, chocolate is much more effective in soothing a cough as opposed to cough medicines
Codeine, a chemical compound found in most cough medicines is what helps cure your cough but this study at Hull University found that eating chocolate is more effective in curing the cough.
Here’s how the science behind this works
Professor Alyn Morice from Hull University, an alleged cough expert claims that cocoa is actually BETTER for soothing coughs, more than any ingredient in a cough medicine. Now just to be clear, we’re saying chocolate is for the purpose of soothing the cough, not curing it.
According to an article in the Daily Mail, Morice referenced ROCOCO, the largest study done on counter-cough remedies up to date. A controlled experiment proved that medicine containing cocoa did much better in treating the patient.
And just to go into the bio of it, the physical properties of chocolate, aka that amazing yummy ooey gooey stickiness of chocolate coats the nerve endings in your throat, in turn, soothing your cough.
So, the next time you feel an itching in your throat, don’t hesitate to have a chocolate…or five
Hey! Don’t you want to get better?
